Spread across 12 acres and home to more than 8,000 residents, the Kirti Nagar slum cluster reflected both resilience and neglect — unsafe housing, poor sanitation, and lack of basic services. Instead of proposing relocation, the vision here was redevelopment rooted in dignity, safety, and inclusion. The masterplan introduced G+8 residential blocks with proper light, ventilation, and sanitation, supported by widened streets, pocket parks, and a central green spine for community life. Healthcare centers, public toilets, and water kiosks were integrated within walking distance to restore hygiene and accessibility. Underutilized spaces were reimagined — stilt areas became play zones, and rooftops transformed into community terraces for farming and interaction. Beyond housing, the design safeguarded livelihoods and identity. Dedicated vending zones, mixed-use buildings, and kiosks supported the informal economy, while schools and anganwadis reduced dropouts and strengthened early education. The result is a vision of redevelopment that is practical, inclusive, and deeply human.
